WELCOME TO CAFE PROV
Proudly independent, slightly eccentric and more than a little off-beat, Cafe Prov is an award-winning restaurant in the heart of Herne Hill. As the oldest and most established restaurant in Herne Hill, we have become a firm favourite with families and discerning local residents. Locals come for the fresh food and stay for the great atmosphere. That's why most have been coming here for years. We serve great food all day, lovingly created on the premises and served by a loyal, local and friendly team. So, whether you're looking for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch, coffee and cake, a great value evening meal - or simply a glass of wine or a local beer away from the mainstream, we'd love to meet you.
Cafe Provençal isn't just in Herne Hill, it's part of it.
MEET THE TEAM
Cafe Provencal is Herne Hill's oldest and most established restaurant, cafe and bar. Cafe Prov, as it is known affectionately by locals, started out in 1994 and is run by co-owners Alan Gaunt and Adam Shipley. Alan and Adam met originally through Adam's wife Jeni, who worked as a chef with Alan in the 1980s reincarnation of the restaurant, Au Provencal.
Adam was at the time working in the music business in Soho, but as chance would have it the opportunity arose to go in partnership together. With a vision to provide Herne Hill with a place to eat, drink and meet Cafe Provencal was born.
Today, Alan runs the kitchen with Adam looking after front of house. The pair have a loyal local team; Jackie James joined the team back in 1999 and has been a leading light every since, while Jeni still turns her culinary hand, making great tasting cakes for the delight of one and all.
With his passion to provide great food undiminished over the years, Alan's keeps the kitchen fresh and lively with regular favourites and daily specials, while Adam has found a place to combine his love of garlic chips and Prince Buster on a day to day basis. Vive Cafe Provencal.
