the prov picCafe Provencal was founded in 1994. The building was originally a Butchers in 1921 and has seen various business's over the years.
In 2000 the cafe expanded to number 2, creating 2,4 & 6 Half Moon Lane, Herne Hill.
Cafe Provencal is very much a local landmark, which has grown over the years just like any good home.
'Cafe Prov' is owned by Colin, Adam, Craig and Morad.

Heres a few reviews.........

Time Out - Cheap Eats In London
"Long a Herne Hill stalwart, Cafe Prov's strongest suit is atmosphere. The super-chilled but efficient staff and the haphazard collection of small spaces, unified by deep red walls sporting old 45s and an agreeably disparate collection of art (all for sale), make for cosy, relaxed noshing (from breakfast to dinner) and/or drinking (there's a small bar area). The kitchen knows its limits, sticking to a sensibly short menu (four or five choices at each course supplemented by a couple of specials) of crowd-pleasers - earty soups, steaks, fishcakes, banoffi pie and the like. Mains rarely break the £10 mark, and if you stick to the good house wine, you can just squeeze a £20-a-head meal. The lunch deal is a steal at £4.50. Very kid-friendly (there's a box of toys on hand)."

Time Out - Bars & Pubs Guide
"Though Cafe Prov is essentially a restaurant, its bar area is a hugely congenial spot in which to nurse a raspberry-tangy Mort Subite (£3) or a lemon-fresh pint of Hoegaarden (£3.90) while munching on a big bowl of garlic chips. What's more, there's something endearingly studenty about its thrown-together, low-lit decor: green-washed boards on the wall are cluttered with a mix of local artworks (most of which are for sale, should you find yourself smitten) and the framed classic album covers, fairy lights flicker in the window, groovy sounds snake out of the stereo. The staff, too, are cheery, chummy and suitably bohemian in appearance. Apart from Hoegaarden, Becks and Guiness are the only draught beers; half-litre bottles of Budvar are £3.25; wines (eight or so of each colour) start at a very reasonable £9.95."

Families (summer 2005) issue 74
"What better after a run in the park than not having to cook? Cafe Provencal in Herne Hill has been a family favourite since I used to meet my NCT chums there many halfmoons ago. Nowadays my children know it as 'that place that does the fat garlic chips'. The high chairs, toys and books immediately demonstrate the family friendliness, as does the chirpy service and relaxed atmosphere.

Joint owner Adam Shipley, himself a new(ish) father served us platesful of rib-eye steak with a fresh salad and the famous garlic chips, while I settled for a trout omellette. No nuggets and dull pizza for children - Adam believes in tickling tiny tastebuds with the main menu of homemade goodies (smaller portions are available on request). While the chef gets busy, enjoy the decor - the walls are filled to bursting with artwork by local artists - all on sale, sometimes for less than the price of your meal. Julia Tants glittery cats and hearts are a particular favourite of ours.

Cafe Provencal is a great place to drop in for a lazy weekend breakfast or anyday lunch; or book a babysitter and enjoy your partners company over an evening meal, lulled by retro sounds drowning the sounds of Herne Hill's traffic."
